Dr. Martin Luther King Gathering
How Have We Advanced the Dream?

Let's gather to start a conversation by asking the question:

Have churches moved the needle forward since Dr. King stated that the church on Sunday morning at 11 am is "one of the most, if not the most segregated hours in Christian America?"

We want to deal at the intersection of RACE, THE GOSPEL, and the CHURCH.

Our panel guests invited to talk about the subject include, Irene Cho—Program Administrator for the Fuller Youth Institute (FYI). She holds a Master of Divinity with an emphasis in Pastoral and General Ministries from Talbot Theological Seminary and a BA in Christian Education from Biola University. At FYI Irene is the point person for Urban Youth Ministry leadership training and resources. Having served 25 years in youth ministry, Irene speaks all over the country at major conferences and retreats, authors curricula, articles, and is currently co-authoring a book with Daniel White Hodge, Peter Watts—Pastor of The R.O.C.K. Church of Los Angeles, Regional Vice President of World Impact, and graduated with his Master degree from Fuller early last year, Joyce Del Rosario—After serving over 20 years in urban youth ministry, Joyce is currently a PhD candidate at Fuller Theological Seminary’s School of Intercultural Studies. She was the Executive Director of New Creation Home Ministries and an area director for Young Life. Joyce is an active leader with the Christian Community Development Association (CCDA) and on faculty with the Sonoran Theological Group. She enjoys volunteering with Youth First in South Central LA., and Mary Glenn—Mary is a member of New City Church of LA (a multi-ethnic, multi-socioeconomic, multi-generational community at the heart of Los Angeles). She leads urban immersions and city walks in Downtown Los Angeles. Mary serves as the co-president of Cities Together (www.citiestogether.org). Mary is an affiliate professor with Fuller Theological Seminary (School of Intercultural Studies/Fuller Youth Institute) and an adjunct professor with Azusa Pacific University (MA Transformational Urban Leadership). She has served as a law enforcement chaplain since 2001, is a police chaplain trainer and an ordained pastor (with over 20 years of pastoral experience).

Together LA Event Page - As We Dwell - Justice Rising

So much happens in a year and as we transition into our second year, we will be launching a new campaign in collaboration with Justice Rising. Let's celebrate, build, and impact together.

Justice Rising is a Los Angeles-based 501(c)(3) organization that exists to transform war zones through education. They believe that every child has a right to a quality education, and that education is one of the most effective tools for transforming places of conflict and combating extremist ideology.

Since 2010, Justice Rising has worked to support communities in the Democratic Republic of Congo, a country that has seen over 5.4 million people killed over the past 20 years. They currently operate seven schools serving over 1,400 students annually. Over the next five years, they aim to build 40 schools in other war affected communities.

Join us in helping us build an As We Dwell school in one of these war zone countries. We believe when two or more are gathered, we will rise above any circumstances and bring transformative change! Your presence and support on this day will be the start of the building process of the As We Dwell school. Our night will be filled with free goodies, delicious food and drinks, shopping experience, musical performance by Winter River, haiku poems by the Haiku Guys+Gals, and more! Stay tuned for more details and partnerships!

"It’s so incredible when people come together with their skills, creativity and passions to stand for children living in war zones. Can’t wait to see the lives transformed with the 'As We Dwell' school!" - Cassandra Lee, Justice Rising Co-Founder, President

Hey KKLA Family,
I would like to invite you to come and share this unforgettable journey of Faith and Biblical History to the Holy Land of Israel. This awe inspiring 11-day journey will take us from the shores of the Mediterranean Sea to Jerusalem.

You will gain firsthand insights into Israel’s rich biblical past, its incredible present and of course, its promised prophetic future. We will not only learn historical backgrounds but real and personal applications to our present lives through Bible studies at all key locations. From Caesarea where Paul almost convinced King Agrippa to become a Christian, to Mt. Carmel where Elijah pulled fire down from heaven. We will stand in the Valley of Elah where David slew Goliath, but most importantly, we will walk in the footsteps of our Lord and Savior Jesus. We will sit on the Mt. of Beatitudes, sail across the Sea of Galilee, stand on top of the Mt of Olives, sit in the Garden of Gethsemane, walk the ancient streets of Old Jerusalem and step inside the empty tomb of our Resurrected Lord. Yes, it’s too much to list. So make plans, and purpose to go with us. It will be a trip of a lifetime! Our faith will be strengthened as we personally witness the Bible unfold before our very eyes. I hope you can join us, on this incredible journey.
Pastor Steve & Laurie
