The three-night event (Aug. 17-19), which is back in Orange County for the 29th year running, was founded by Southern California pastor and evangelist Greg Laurie in 1990. The SoCal Harvest is an evangelistic outreach designed to answer life’s big questions like: Why am I here? Is God real? What happens when I die? The event is free of charge and open to the public.
Other worship artists Together LA is scheduled to chat with live over the three nights include Jordan Feliz, Lincoln Brewster, and Madeline Carroll. Be sure to visit Together LA’s Facebook Page to watch the live stream beginning at 4 pm PT. Artists vary every night.
In addition to bringing a friend to this year’s event, Southern Californians are also encouraged to bring a Bible as part of the SoCal Harvest’s #StandWithTheBible campaign. The campaign is a response to a story that made national headlines this past week when a local real estate company removed billboards from its Fashion Island mall and the Irvine Spectrum after receiving complaints and at least one “serious threat” against the ads that featured an image of Pastor Laurie holding a Bible. On Friday, the event’s opening night, Laurie will ask everyone in attendance to hold the Bible high over their heads in a show of support for the “book of books.” Laurie hopes the campaign will be a positive way for Christians to stand up for the Word of God.
“Countless people throughout the ages have been transformed because of the Bible, and its impact around the world is literally impossible to quantify,” Laurie said. “Instead of being offended by it, more people ought to pick it up, read it and see for themselves what it has to say. I believe our cities, our nation and the world will be immeasurably better off if more people read and even more importantly follow what the Bible says.”
Some of the top professional Freestyle Motocross riders and X-Games athletes in the world will be featured in an FMX show inside Angel Stadium on Saturday at 6:30 p.m.,during the second night of the SoCal Harvest. The show will include FMX legend and former world champion Nate Adams, Jimmy Fitzpatrick and the “Fitz Army,” Jarryd McNeil, Taka Higashino, Destin Cantrell, and Todd Potter.
